Andhra Pradesh floods: Situation of dams

  Andhra Pradesh is devastated by floods and situation is still on edge but under control. People of Kurnool, Mahaboobnagar, Guntur and Krishna districts will take years to recover from this natural calamity. Biggest floods to Krishna River in last 100 years submerged hundreds of villages and created havoc in many districts of state. Submerged villages in Kurnool and Mahaboobnagar are now receiving relief measures in full scale.  But situation is critical in Nadyal. Kundu River is overflowing in that region. Till now, 448 villages are submerged in 4 districts. 4 lakh people are displaced to relief camps from critical areas. Tomorrow is most critical day for people of Krishna and Guntur districts. More than 200 relief camps are setup in 4 affected districts of Andhra Pradesh for flood victims.  Situation at Andhra Pradesh dams:  1. Biggest floods in Andhra history in 100 years

 Kurnool city in Andhra Pradesh is submerged under Krishna flood waters. Sreesailam dam is in precarious condition as water levels reached dangerous situation. Inflow at Sreesailam dam is almost 100% higher than outflow. Spiritual town, Mantralayam was merged totally but Mantralayam Swamiji was rescued by Karnataka helicopters.  Situation is now out of control in Kurnool town and some parts of Kurnool and Mahaboobnagar districts but it is under control at other parts of Andhra pradesh. Nh7 highway was breached at 20 places. Road transport between Hyderabad and Bangalore is totally disrupted. Trains are cancelled in Hyderabad-Bangalore route. Water from Tungabhadra river is flowing above protection level. Alampur village is in trouble.  Andhra Pradesh flood situation:  Kurnool Town:  It is totally submerged by flood waters. Situation is much worse than 1982 floods. We will know about death toll only on Sunday and it is impossible to estimate property loss. City will be under flood waters for another 48 hours. At some places, flood water is at 15-20 feet level. Analysts are expecting another 6-8 ft increase in water levels in City by Saturday morning due to back waters from Sreesailam dam. 50,000 people are trapped in flood waters as of now.  Mantralayam: Town was totally submerged by flood waters. But, Swamiji was rescued. Water level in town is now at 12 feet.  Kurnool District: Situation is grim. No communication with outside world in many parts of district.  Sree Sailam dam: Water level touched 890 feet level but dam capacity is 885 feet only.
